John Corbett
I'm a software engineer at Google/YouTube working on the YouTube iOS app.
I've been making iOS apps since I was 13. I grew up in central New Jersey, and went to High Technology High School in Lincroft.
I published a few iPhone apps in high school, and later went on to attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where I graduated with a degree in Computer Science.
During my time at CMU, I studied many areas of computer science, including computer security, machine learning, and operating systems. I had two professional internships while I was attending CMU: Google Maps (in Zürich) and Citadel (in Chicago).
I learned a lot from both of these internships, and those skills still help in my professional career.
After graduating from CMU, I worked with a small team at a company called Proscia (In Pittsburgh, PA) to research how computer vision and machine learning could help diagnose breast cancer, as well as make predictions about how it may progress. After my time at Proscia I rejoined Google, but this time working for YouTube (in San Bruno, CA), where I work currently.
I'm familiar with many programming languages: I have professional experience with Objective-C, Swift, C/C++, Python, and Typescript, and a good working knowledge of Ruby, Perl, Go, Java, and assembly (ARM and x86).
A little bit about me personally:
I currently live in San Francisco - Silicon Valley
I love to ride motorcycles
I play music (guitar, bass, piano) in some bands around San Francisco and Oakland
In the winter months, I love to ski in Tahoe
